South Bend’s Hidden Gem

Carol’s Cottage accommodates those who need a place for a short term stay while traveling or studying, like medical and business professionals, grad students, interns, travelers, and tourists.

With two individual guest spaces and a shared kitchen, common room, sunroom, and laundry room, Carol’s Cottage feels like a home away from home. Comfortable and cozy, it is located near enough to downtown, universities, and hospitals to be a quick commute, while being just far enough to avoid the noise of bars, traffic, and have lots of green scenery.

Here as a travel nurse, in our city for work, here for a semester, or going on a travel adventure? Carol’s Cottage - is the perfect place to stay.

No more instant coffee styrofoam cups, and carry out leftovers for weeks on end.

Carol’s Cottage has real coffee in a little nook - choose your preference of medium or dark roast - with a standard coffee maker if you’re staying in, or a Keurig if you’re on the go. There’s a full fridge that always has staple foods, and a counter that often has fresh baked goods out for guests. The space is in a well cared for house that has central air and heating - no broken AC units, worn down carpeting, and questionable pipes that come with rental houses. Right around the corner of your guest space is a washer and dryer, instead of going to a laundromat once a week like most short stay apartments.

Carol is a host who takes pride in caring for guests. She’ll ask you if you have things you want from the grocery store and has a welcome package ready when you arrive with all of the necessities. Forgot your toothbrush and toothpaste? Not a problem, Carol already thought of that. She’ll give you a tour of the town if you’d like and give you the inside scoop on the best spots in town for restaurants and activities- even help you arrange transportation to the airport if you need it. Carol is there to make sure you can settle in and feel at ease during your stay in South Bend.

Hi, from Oli and I!

I’m Carol (and this is Oli). I like to say that "I am an optimist who always has a vision of something present & in the near future."

I begin my day with a cup of coffee and taking "Prince Oli" on a simple walk around the neighborhood. Summer is my favorite season & I enjoy my surrounding garden of colorful perennials; the bright, tropical Hibiscus being my soulmate. The garden surrounds the home I own in Lafayette Falls, a suburb of South Bend, decorated in a beachy, get-away style that uplifts my spirit all year round.

I like watching all movies, enjoy a variety of music, am ready to take up new hobbies and like to learn new skills. I am kind, determined, creative, and deeply passionate in whatever direction my plan goes for the day. My former life as an educator, for 29 years, centered around middle school students. I’ve learned to wear many different hats, have enjoyed my mentoring of students and being qualified as a high school exchange host. Now I extend my kindness, concierge skills, and knowledge to traveling professionals and adult students.

Oli, your new best friend.

There are lots of great things about Carol’s Cottage, but Oli is definitely high on the list. He’s friendly and always says hello, but he’s got things to get done that day, too - walks, food, showing the stuffed toys in his own play area who’s boss, and loyally following around his owner. Pets and snuggles are always welcome, though.

It can be hard to be away from your people and your home (or in between the places you call home) for a long time. Pets like Oli improve your mental and emotional well-being in those situations (it’s science, you can look it up!) - just one more benefit to staying here.

Not a dog person? That’s okay - neither was Carol until she met Oli! While it’s Oli’s home, too, he’ll let you be and Carol keeps a special eye on him while you’re here.
